In Kelley Blue Book’s 2011 Brand Image Awards, three automakers score multiple wins with Cadillac taking the lion’s share of three out of ten awards and Ford and BMW, two each. Single category award winners include Toyota, Honda, and Mercedes-Benz.
This is the fourth year of the Kelley Blue Book Brand Image Awards. Presented to the top brands in ten categories, the awards are based on consumer automotive perception data from the Kelley Blue Book Market Intelligence’s Brand Watch Study. An online brand perception tracking study, Brand Watch taps into more than 12,000 in-market new vehicle shoppers annually.

Cadillac. Cadillac wins more awards than any other automaker in the Kelley Blue Book 2011 Brand Image Awards. The three Cadillac Brand Image Awards include: Best Exterior Design Brand in the Luxury category, Best Interior Design Brand and Best Comfort Brand among all classes.
In a statement announcing the winners, Kelley Blue Book’s editors at kbb.com said that “the Cadillac CTS deserves at least 75 percent of the credit in securing this award (the Best Exterior Design Brand – Luxury). Yes, the big, bad Escalade is impossible to ignore and the SRX crossover is a nice interpretation of Cadillac’s current design ethos, but the CTS sedan is the car that put Cadillac on the design map.”
Commenting on the comfort award, Kelley Blue Book editors said, “Cadillac’s best-selling CTS is a bona-fide sports sedan – rich materials, fancy features and world-class interior design deliver 21st-century comfort.”
Don Butler, Cadillac vice president of marketing, said in a Cadillac press release that the “Kelley Blue Book Brand Image Awards are significant because they’re based on the perceptions of consumers actively looking to buy a new automobile.” He added that “the awards confirm that Cadillac is setting the standard for exterior and interior design and attracting more people to the brand.”

BMW AG confirmed it has hired Frank Weber, former head of product planning at General Motors Co.’s Opel/Vauxhall unit.
Weber will become head of vehicle architecture and integration at BMW, a spokesman for the premium carmaker told Automotive News Europe today. The spokesman did not give details of when Weber will start at BMW.
Weber will report to Klaus Draeger, BMW’s head of research and development, company sources told ANE last week.
Weber’s move to BMW gives the carmaker a huge boost in electric vehicle expertise as Weber was the lead engineer for the Chevrolet Volt plug-in hybrid.
BMW plans to launch its i3 full-electric car and its i8 plug-in hybrid in 2013.
Opel has not named a successor for Weber, who returned to GM’s European subsidiary in November 2009 to lead its product team. Prior to that, Weber spent two years at GM in the United States working on the Volt. The Volt and Opel’s version of the car, the Ampera, will go on sale in Europe in November.
Weber is a German native who joined Opel in 1991 after finishing his engineering studies at Darmstadt University. He held several leading positions in the technical development center in Ruesselsheim such as director of advanced concept engineering.

Honda hopes to retake some value ground by adding the 2011 Insight base model at $18,950 while at the same time filtering such essentials as cruise control and a USB iPod interface from the top-line Insight EX model down to the less-expensive midlevel LX version.

The S6 sprints from 0 to 60 mph in 5.1 seconds; its top speed is electronically governed at 155 mph. A six-speed Tiptronic automatic and Quattro all-wheel-drive come standard.
The V10′s throaty rumble at idle isn’t all show — over 90 percent of the torque is available from as low as 2,300 rpm. For all its aggressiveness, Audi promises the engine delivers very low-vibration and plenty of refinement.
The transmission, steering, chassis and brakes of the S6 have been modified to reflect the engine’s power. The firmer settings of the springs, dampers and elastokinematics as well as a more direct steering ratio make the S6 feel less like an executive sedan and more like a sports car.
